FAQ

Can you hardwire my flex system?

We will not hardwire an existing flex system. Others have done it, it is possible, we don't like tacking wires onto the old PCB. It makes it much harder to trouble-shoot a preamp electronics problem in the future.

Can you make me a new Fly?

Remaking an original Fly is not a reality. Too much tooling / fixtures / materials involved are long gone or require large quantities of bulk to justify a supplier to manufacture those special composites.

Future Projects

  • We want to develop a complete, drop-in replacement for the Fishman Preamp board and flex cable system using a GraphTech board and traditional wiring. The original output jack will remain. As it turns out, the epoxied battery switch can be used to turn on the system the way GraphTech intends. Replacement pots and switches need to be identified and a prototype built.
  • Two test rigs are needed to mimic a guitar (pickups, pots and switches) so the original preamp board and the original Powerchip boards can be verified/repaired without having the guitar in house. With the test rig and the schematics, our amp guy can do his thing.
  • We will be machining proper trem arm bushings at some point to replace the original injection molded plastic ones. The 3D printed ones are awful; they just don't have the structural integrity to hold up.
  • We will be modifying Seymour Duncan pickups (and others) to mount into pre-refined Flys. A fixture is needed to properly place threaded inserts into the pickup route for mounting. The intended new pickups need to be the right height to work, so this will be done on a case-by-case basis.
  • A new routing fixture is being designed to properly install a Sustainac system into the original Fly. We have zero plans to persue the Adrian Belew Line 6 build.
  • Custom Pickguards of anything other than NiteFly offered by WD Music
